My Thrifty Home: The Bedroom Before + After

3 Apr

The husband and I have had a great time making our apartment feel like our own over the last 2 years, on a SUPER tight budget! Living in a rental apartment, we had to be creative about how we could make over the rooms – but were lucky enough to find an apartment complex that allowed us to paint. The bedroom was a fun adventure: here’s what we did to make it feel like home…

When we moved in, the bedroom looked a lot like this [although this isn’t an exact photo of the room. I forgot to take one… oops!]: White floor, white walls, one window… you get the idea. Pretty sad and boring…

With a gallon of paint from Home Depot and fun [and cheap!] mirrors from IKEA, we moved in and our room started looking better… Here it is as a work in progress:

But (obviously) more work needed to be done! After installing the mirrors, we found some great wall sconces for an awesome price at IKEA (can you tell we LOVE IKEA?). We added lighting, and a great new bed set we found on clearance at Ross.

To make things interesting, we had my mom [the master craftswoman] sew some throw pillows from fabric we chose, and invested in a fun pair of bright green sheets on clearance at Target (and used a coupon, of course!). We bought a great gently used queen size bed from good friends who are turning their guest room into a nursery, and added a nice desk and hutch (from my childhood home) and dresser.

Finally, I hand painted some colorful frames for family photos on our walls, and then… a completed bedroom! TA DA:
